Summary:
The Manager of Promotions and Special Events (MPSE) is responsible for creating, scheduling, managing and implementing exemplary events, which include all signature events, promotions and daily activities.
The MPSE is to develop Zoo events in coordination with respective departments to increase guest satisfaction and educate the community to all that encompasses our mission.
Additionally, the MPSE coordinates all aspects of Zoo facility rentals and group sales, thus having a direct impact on the development and growth of the Zoo's earned revenues.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with Zoo schedule and manage the creation and publication of daily gate sheets.
Evaluate the yearly schedule and research daily, weekly and monthly attendance trends to ensure that guest traffic is maximized each day.
Research and develop creative ideas for the implementation or enhancement of daily activities, promotions and special events Obtain all essential materials, decorations, vendors, etc.
, to ensure event success.
Collaborate with Guest Services and Maintenance Departments to help schedule staffing and construct and decorate for events, as needed.
Conduct middle management meetings to coordinate departmental involvement in various events and activities.
Communicate marketing needs to the Marketing Department head to ensure the public is aware of the activities available at the zoo.
Work with the Manager of Digital & Design for signage and d cor needs for promotions and events.
Create and maintain an exciting and positive work environment for fellow employees, Zoo visitors, vendors, clients and their guests.
Create and maintain individual profit & loss sheets to evaluate with the Director of Sales and Marketing and track the success of each event.
Produce budget requests for promotions and special events for review with the Director of Sales and Marketing and manage finances within the approved budget.
Field requests for rental information and work with patrons to finalize reservations Ensure that all guest inquiries and business-related calls are being handled in a timely, professional, enthusiastic and polite manner.
Attend appropriate trade seminars.
Provide guided tours of the facility to potential clients Review and finalize all rental contracts Be able to successfully handle on-site guest and staff relations compliments or criticism relating to the guest/client experience.
Be familiar with the Zoo's Mission Statement for accomplishments and future goals.
Other duties as assigned Requirements:
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES High proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Detail-oriented and organized Excellent written communication skills Able to communicate effectively Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy as well as in a group setting.
Excellent time management with the ability to multitask and adhere to deadlines Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships Demonstrated leadership abilities and strategic thinking QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Associate Degree in related field Preferred High School Diploma with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience Willing to adjust working hours to accommodate the needs of the job (weekend, holiday and evenings) PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

Performing the job duties of this position involves walking throughout the zoo grounds, standing for long periods, and other physical tasks, including sit; stand; use hands to fingers; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear.
Employees must occasionally lift and/or move/transport up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
While performing these job duties, you will sometimes be required to work outside in all weather conditions throughout the day.
